Deadly Fire Engulfs Shoe Factory in Jinjiang
A fire at a shoe manufacturing facility in the southeastern city of Jinjiang, China, has resulted in the deaths of at least 28 people, as reported by the national news agency. The incident, which occurred at the Huiteng Footwear factory, involved significant loss of life and has drawn attention to safety standards in the region.
Video footage shared by Xinhua News Agency depicted large clouds of black smoke billowing from the building, with individuals visibly trapped on the rooftop. The fire broke out at approximately noon local time on Thursday, and rescue efforts were promptly initiated.
Efforts to Combat the Blaze
Authorities quickly responded to the emergency, deploying over 500 personnel to control the fire and rescue those inside. Reports indicate that nearly 240 employees were present at the factory during the fire. Of these, 213 were evacuated, although two later succumbed to their injuries in the hospital. The remaining 26, initially unaccounted for, were discovered deceased.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the fire may have originated on the ground floor, where flammable materials were stored. In response to the tragedy, several employees associated with the factory's ownership have been detained, and the company's bank accounts have been frozen as part of the investigation.
