Ted Lasso Star Cristo Fernandez Begins Professional Soccer Career

Cristo Fernandez Transitions to Professional Soccer

Cristo Fernandez, who gained fame portraying Dani Rojas on the popular show Ted Lasso, has embarked on a new chapter by making his professional soccer debut. On Sunday, the 35-year-old Mexican actor fulfilled a lifelong dream by joining the American second-tier team El Paso Locomotive.

Debut Match Details

Fernandez entered the field as a substitute in the 79th minute during Locomotive's USL Cup clash against New Mexico United. Despite a 2-0 defeat, his appearance marked a significant milestone in his career. During the match, Fernandez received a yellow card for a foul on New Mexico's goalkeeper Kris Shakes.

From Youth Football to Acting

Originally from Guadalajara, Fernandez played youth football until a knee injury at 15 led him to step away from the sport. His passion for football remained, though, and after relocating to London, he secured a role in Ted Lasso, which follows an American football coach managing a fictional Premier League team.

A Return to Soccer

In May, Fernandez signed with El Paso Locomotive following a successful two-month trial. Reflecting on his journey, he shared, "Returning to professional soccer is about self-belief, taking risks, and pursuing your dreams, regardless of how unexpected the journey may be."

Future Projects

While Fernandez explores his soccer career, fans of Ted Lasso can look forward to the premiere of the show's fourth season on Apple TV on August 5.
